COUNSELING FOR INDIVIDUALS

Getting to know you, really know you, is where our work begins.

No two people walk into my office carrying the same story. Everything we do together is built around you: your needs, your pace, your life.

I specialize in affirming, identity-competent care for people and couples who have struggled to find a provider who truly gets it.

Whether you're working through LGBTQIA+ experiences, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, family conflict, or major life transitions, I'm here to walk that path with you.

APPROACH

My approach is grounded in Person Centered Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Solution Focused Therapy.

I am also under supervision to be credentialed as an AASECT certified Sex Therapist.

THE SPACE

My office is a space where you don’t have to explain yourself before you can be supported — you're already welcome here, exactly as you are.

I also offer confidential tele-health sessions.

ABOUT CHARLIE PURVIS, M.ED

I understand how difficult it can be to move through a world that is not designed for you.

As a neurodivergent and transgender individual, I understand how difficult it can be to find affirming, competent care out of the endless number of providers. With me, you are seen, heard, and supported. Each and every person that comes into my office is unique, and our work together should reflect that.

I am a Resident in Counseling and practice under supervision and I am also under supervision to become an AASECT certified Sex Therapist with Brooke Croft, LMFT, CST, founder of Croftwell Therapy. I proudly hold memberships with organizations that are furthering equity and affirming care for LGBTQIA populations.

  • Sex therapy is conducted in a safe and confidential setting by a trained and licensed therapist. The therapist provides education about anatomy and physiology, physical response and arousal patterns, and other pertinent sexual information specific to the client’s concerns. This form of therapy is focused on addressing the sexual concerns of the client(s). It's important to note that sex therapy never involves any sexual or inappropriate contact between the therapist and the client.

How is sex therapy different from regular therapy?

Sex therapy is very similar to conventional psychotherapy; the difference is that sex therapists have additional training on how to help people with sexual concerns.

    What is sex therapy NOT?

There is absolutely no sexual touch between the therapist and the client.

What does sex therapy require of me?

Nothing is required, but I will ask for personal historical information to help me understand how you became the person you are today. So much of what is worked through in sex therapy is negative messaging we have received from family and society that holds us back from our own happiness.

How do I know sex therapy is right for me?

Do you struggle with intimacy? Acceptance of yourself? Authenticity? Have issues with sexual function that are not biological? These are just a few of the common reasons people seek out a sex therapist.

  • In general, the law protects the confidentiality of all communications between a psychotherapist and a client. No information is disclosed without prior written consent from the client. This is done by signing a HIPPA form. However, there are some exceptions required by law to this rule. I am required by law to report to the authorities the following circumstances:

    1) If I suspect that an individual may be involved in child abuse or dependent adult or elder abuse.

    2) If a client is threatening serious bodily harm to another person.

    3) If a client intends to harm himself or herself. The therapist will make every effort to work with the individual to ensure their safety. However, if an individual does not cooperate, additional measures may need to be taken.

  • And what if I have to cancel?

If you cancel less than 48 hours before our session you will be charged the full fee for that session.

What happens if I’m late to our session?

The therapist is not obligated to make up time due to a client’s lateness. More than 15 minutes lateness constitutes a late cancellation and the therapist is not obligated to conduct the session.

And what if you have to cancel?

If I am severely ill, or have a life-or-death event, I will inform you that I will be absent. I inform patients of my vacation or conference schedule at least a week in advance. If I am unable to give a week’s notice of events which will keep me out of the office I will give 48 hours.
